It was a beautiful fall day for the 97th Hingham Historic House Tour. Over 500 visitors enjoyed an afternoon of touring five beautiful private homes and five iconic public buildings: The House Tour is one of the oldest and longest running house tours in the country, dating back to 1924. Since that time the House Tour has become a town favorite, drawing visitors from across the south shore and beyond!
This year’s tour featured some of Hingham’s oldest properties ranging in dates from 1650-1879. Guests were treated to the unique and fascinating house histories of each property. Stunning floral arrangements were created by the Garden Club of Hingham to compliment the beauty of each home. Iconic public buildings on the tour included: The Hingham Heritage Museum at Old Derby, The Old Ordinary, The Benjamin Lincoln House, Old Ship Meetinghouse, and Wilder Memorial Hall. The Hingham Historical Society offered refreshments and treats throughout the day to guests in the ballroom of its headquarters at 34 Main Street.
The Hingham Historical Society thanks the generous homeowners who steward their historic homes and opened them in support of the Society, the over 100 volunteer docents and members who gave of their time, the Friends of Old Ship Meetinghouse, The Wilder Charitable Trust, the Garden Club of Hingham, the Hingham Militia, and the 97th Historic House Tour Committee: Lara Thompson (Chair), Caroline Counselman, Susan Harris, Gail Litchfield, Lauren Mahoney, Dawn Martel, Sue Merrill, Mary Morrison, Jane Shute, and Erin Whitmore.. In addition, the generous sponsors and local businesses who continue to support the fall programming of The Hingham Historical Society.
