COLONIAL CRAFTS DAYS AT THE OLD ORDINARY
Hingham Historical Society is delighted to announce that The Old Ordinary will feature "Colonial Crafts Days" on July 6 and August 10 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Come to the Old Ordinary to learn how things were done in Colonial times. We will have special tours, skilled demonstrators, and hands-on activities for ages 5 to 99. Explore our extensive and seldom-seen tool collection with a knowledgeable guide and watch a craftsman demonstrate some of the same tools. Tighten a rope bed, learn about spinning from a crafts woman and try your hand at a drop spindle and niddy-noddy. Have fun cross stitching, dipping candles, making butter from cream, and much more.
The Old Ordinary, house museum of the Hingham Historical Society, was built in 1688 and expanded twice before the Revolutionary War, It served as a home, colonial ordinary, tavern, and public meeting place off and on for over 150 years. Fascinating in its own right, it is filled with furnishings, housewares, and fun stories to fascinate and delight its visitors.
