The Hingham Historical Society in Hingham, Massachusetts, announces that it is one of 79 institutions in the United States selected to participate in the Collections Assessment for Preservation (CAP) program.
CAP helps museums improve the care of their collections by providing support for a conservation assessment of the museum’s collections and buildings. The Society will work with a team of preservation professionals who will visit the Society’s Hingham properties in August to identify preventive conservation priorities. A final assessment report generated upon completion of the work will help the museum prioritize its collections care efforts in the coming years.
“In 2016, we completed a multi-year restoration and expansion project at Old Derby Academy and opened the Hingham Heritage Museum in that historic building. We are now engaged in our Old Ordinary Stabilization Project, comprising a series of much-needed maintenance projects at our 1688 house museum. The third step in our long-term conservation plan will be to ensure that our collections are properly preserved and housed,” explained Paula Bagger, the Society’s President.
“The opportunity to participate in the CAP program will jump-start and focus our planning for this.
We are grateful to have been selected for the program.”
The CAP program is administered by the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation (FAIC) through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal grant making agency that supports museums and libraries.
