To the Community:
In heartfelt and prayerful response to the recent hostage taking at Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, we write as members of the Hingham Hull Religious Leaders Association, representing a variety of Christian, Jewish, and Unitarian Universalist congregations. We write to express our deep and abiding support for our friends and colleagues in the Jewish community wherever they are, including in our local congregations in Hingham and Hull. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King said that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” In the same spirit, a threat to our friends in the Jewish community in Colleyville, Texas is felt as a threat to our Jewish friends everywhere and to people of loving faith everywhere.
We encourage all people of faith to respond and reach out with love and care, so that those who feel and are threatened by hate and terrorism know that they are not alone, that they are held as part of what Dr. King called the “inescapable network of mutuality.”
