As announced at its 50th anniversary annual meeting in May, the Hingham Land Conservation Trust (HLCT) is launching an annual environmental research grant to honor the memory of its founder, Sally Goodrich. The application period is now open. Eligibility information and more about the Goodrich Research Grant program, as well as a downloadable application form, can be found on the Grants page of the HLCT website at hinghamlandtrust.org. Applications are due by October 21, 2022.
The purpose of the Goodrich Research Grant is to fund research projects by an institution, organization, or town:
— that will assist in the conservation of open space (land and water) in Hingham and
adjoining South Shore communities for the benefit of flora, wild creatures and all of us
who depend on this environment, and
— to improve access to or to encourage area residents to enjoy and respect the
importance of our parklands and conservation areas.
Planning for the Goodrich Research Grant program was initiated after the HLCT received a generous unrestricted gift from the estate of Sally Goodrich, in memory of Sally’s son Robert. Following Sally’s death in 2020, HLCT received tribute gifts in her honor, which were added to the gift from her estate, and a separate HLCT account was established. To bring the fund to its launch target of at least $50,000, all members of the board of the HLCT, and other generous supporters, made targeted contributions to the fund. HLCT plans to add to the fund with future contributions so that Goodrich Research Grants can be awarded annually for many years to come.
The Goodrich Research Grant application review committee consists of immediate past HLCT board chair Eileen McIntyre and long-time board member Don Kidston; former board member, Barbara Wollan; local wetlands expert Steve Ivas and, to represent the Goodrich family, Sally’s son Chuck Goodrich.
The inaugural Goodrich Research Grant recipient institution(s) will be announced by January 30, 2023.
