After a few years hiatus, Hingham’s Legion Post 120 baseball team is back and having a very successful sophomore season. The team reconstituted last year when it was clear that the desire for Hingham to have their own team as players were going to other towns to play during the summer. Legion teams allow older high school players and college players to continue to play and compete for their home towns. There are a number of spots on each team for out of town players.
This year, the Post 120 has rattled off an impressive 16-1 overall record and was undefeated in the regular season. Last night, they clinched their spot from District 10 in the 8-team State Championship tournament starting Saturday at Holy Cross in Worcester. Hingham bounced back with a 6-4 win at home vs Sandwich after a tough 2-1 loss on Sunday vs Fall River, who also moved onto the State Tournament as winner of District 10.
“We’re a really gritty team,” Jake Schulte said after Sunday’s game. “Guys stepping up. Up and down the line-up we can hit. Everyone really wants to be here and everyone takes it seriously. We are here to have fun but we are also here to win.”
Hingham’s tournament opponent and game details have yet to be finalized.
