Upcoming events: Christmas concert; history lesson; mindful yoga for everyone
Christmas guitar concert -- The Boston Classical Guitar Society will present "John Muratore: Christmas Music for Guitar" Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Whiton Room.
This annual event is a highlight of the holiday season. Muratore’s “Noël: A Classical Guitar Christmas” was named one of the top-selling holiday-classical albums of 2012 by CD Baby. The CD is a collection of new and traditional arrangements of carols, hymns, and folk music for solo guitar that spans six centuries of musical tradition. Stop by and enjoy this special concert. No reservations are required.
Mindful Yoga for Everyone -- Wednesday, Dec. 8, and Monday, Dec. 13, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Whiton Room.
This 60-minute yoga practice offers a gentle mix of Hatha yoga-based styles -- including breathwork and meditation -- to stimulate the energy systems in the body, while at the same time bringing calm and peace to the mind. Because space is limited, registration is required and can be completed online at the Hingham Public Library website.
History lesson -- "The Tory Travails of Hingham's Martin Gay," Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
Join Gay family descendent Judy Petitmermet to learn about Hingham's Martin Gay, a staunch Loyalist during the American Revolution. Her presentation spans nearly 200 years of history from 1630 to 1824 and aims to tell the story of the "other side" of the American Revolution as seen through Gay's experiences, travels, and surviving documents.
Petitmermet is a journalist whose 50-plus year career ranged from newspapers and television to magazines, teaching, and corporate communications. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The 30-minute presentation will be followed by a question and discussion period. This event will be held on Zoom. To join the program, register online on the HPL website. The link will be emailed to participants shortly before the program.
