UPCOMING EVENTS

Guitar concert — Sunday, Feb. 17, 3 p.m. The library in partnership with the Boston Classical Guitar Society will present the Transcontinental Duo, Igor and Hiroko Kajimoto Golger, on guitar and flute. David Matthews, an arranger for George Brown and the leader of the Manhattan Jazz Quintet, recently wrote a set of pieces for this duo, which they feature in concert programs and on their newest CD. This concert series is offered with the support of Coastal Heritage Bank.

Great Books You May Have Missed in 2018 — Saturday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m.  Are you looking for something good to read? Is your list of recommended books so long you just don’t know where to start or do you tend to read the same authors and styles over and over again? If so, don’t miss Collection Development Librarian and Readers’ Advisor Peter Thornell’s presentation of numerous titles from several different genres of both fiction and non-fiction. Participants are welcome to share their thoughts about their own list of “must read” titles. Refreshments will be available. For more information visit the Reference Desk, call (781) 741-1405, x1404, or email thornell@ocln.org.

Evening with the Author –Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7 p.m.  Longtime Hingham resident Martha Reardon Bewick will share her new book, “Tranquility Grove: The Great Abolitionist Picnic of 1844,” telling the story of an event that took place in Hingham and was attended by as many as 10,000 people — the largest abolitionist picnic in history — marking the 10th anniversary of the end of slavery in the British West Indies. “Tranquility Grove” offers a wealth of information, including suggestions as to how Tranquility Grove can be better maintained and interpreted as a significant 19th-Century historic site. Copies of Bewick’s book will be available for purchase and signing. This event is in partnership with Buttonwood Books & Toys.

 ESPECIALLY FOR FAMILIES

Saturday Family Storytime — Feb. 9, March 9, April 20, and May 18, 9:30 a.m. Children and their caregivers will enjoy listening to books, songs, and rhymes, followed by playtime with the library’s toy collection.
