After a year off, the Hingham Lions Club is looking to host a July 4th Community Celebration once again. With a new name, “Hingham Harborworks,” and new energy behind it, the Lions Club has initiated a community wide fundraising campaign that would allow for a town wide celebration to hopefully take place on Saturday, June 27 or a later date.”
This is all contingent, of course, on where things stand with COVID 19 and the fundraising campaign kicks off with the understanding it’s possible the celebration may be delayed or even postponed until 2021. If fundraising doesn’t begin now, however, there would be no option for a celebration this year.
Last year, the Hingham Lions were unfortunately forced to cancel the beloved 4th of July fireworks due to a shortage of volunteers and funds. In the months that followed a call went out across the community and volunteers showed up in numbers. But funds must be raised so the show can go on.
The Lions Club has set up a Go Fund Me Page for anyone interested in donating to help make the celebration a reality as $50,000 is needed by June 1 to allow the fireworks to take place. Should the fireworks need to be postponed due to safety concerns around COVID 19 they will be used to fund Harborworks in 2021.
The organizers are in regular contact with Town officials as well as the Chief of Police who will need to sign off on the final decision. In the meantime, The Lions Club is asking those who can contribute to pledge what they can and to help spread the word as widespread community support is needed to make the Hingham Harborworks Celebration a reality.
