While this St. Patrick’s Day feels very different for many of us amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, many Hingham neighborhoods got in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit today by creating a “Shamrock Hunt” for local children.

The “Shamrock Hunt” provided a fun and educational activity for kids while still encouraging the importance of social distancing.

In different neighborhoods around town including the Stanford/Blackhorse/Harvard Drive, Liberty Pole, Thompson Ave, Conservatory Park and Farm Hills hoods, among others – neighbors decided to get creative by coloring and cutting shamrocks and taping them on exterior doors/windows of their home.  Kids and parents were then encouraged to take a walk (or drive due to rain) throughout the day and count the number of shamrocks they found along the way!

Many families took it a step further and incorporated math lessons by counting, adding and subtracting shamrocks and house numbers.

Hingham, way to come together and make this a special St. Patrick’s Day that we all will never forget!  And, while we are protecting each other through social distancing in many, many ways our community feels closer than ever.
