The Hingham Public Library is very pleased to be launching an Artist-in-Residence pilot program connecting the arts with literature.
Children ages 5-10 and their families are invited to join us as we create the Fly By Night dance troop during this unique and interactive dance series with our inaugural artists-in-residence, Nikki Hu and Guy Van Duser.
Choreographer Nikki Hu and musician Guy Van Duser are master teaching artists who are noted for bringing book subjects to life through dancing and music. Nikki likes to tell children that dancing is like "talking without words," and she regards heartfelt dancing to be a form of communication that opens the heart and uplifts the spirit. Nikki will work with children to present two dances set to Guy's original music. One is based on the Vietnamese folktale The Raven and the Starfruit, and the other on an Asian folktale about the Zodiac Animals, How Rat Became Number One.
The program will be held on two Saturdays each month January thru March from 9:00-10:30; culminating in a final performance on March 21. Registrants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible for the fullest experience, but we understand schedules may require participants to miss an occasional session. Please register online at hinghamlibrary.org/register or by calling 781-741-1405 ext. 1403.
Program Dates: January 11 and 25, February 8 and 29, March 14 and 21.
