The Hingham Library is pleased to welcome tenor David Won, accompanied by pianist Timothy Steele, on Saturday, May 13 at 3:00. This is their 9th year performing together. They will present songs from Les Miserables, Elijah, Requiem by Webber, Hayes, Psalm 23, and one of the most beloved sacred Korean songs, among many others. All are welcome to attend this wonderful afternoon of music!
David Won entered Seoul Theological Seminary to study Church Music in 1980, and then transferred to Seattle Pacific University, where he received a BA in 1983. In 1986, he received a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary, and in 1993 a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. He has always been deeply involved in music, particularly choral music. In May of 2016, David made his European debut in Padova and Venezia Mestre with recitals, and Cremona TV1 interview, Italy. David’s first CD, “Only Love” featuring Pascal Szymczak’s works was released in December of 2017, and his second CD “Languages of Love” in February of 2018. Timothy Steele is an active vocal coach, collaborative pianist, and conductor, and is currently in his twenty-seventh year on the opera faculty at New England Conservatory.
He is a former music director for Opera Providence, where he led nine productions, numerous concerts, and collaborated with WaterFire Providence on a unique and popular series of opera evenings. He has served as assistant conductor/pianist for over 180 productions with 33 opera companies and assisted with the Pulitzer Prize winning opera Madame White Snake for productions in Boston and Taiwan. In Boston he has performed with Emmanuel Music, the Handel and Haydn Society, and the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, among others.
