Hingham residents, Brian McGeoghegan and Jessica Sandifer, will run the 2022 in-person Boston Marathon® as part of Team South Shore Health.

“I am excited and nervous at the opportunity to compete in the 2022 Boston Marathon as part of South Shore Health,” said McGeoghegan. “It’s another great way to give back to such a  wonderful organization. Helping those with substance use disorders and behavioral health issues are causes that hit home for me, and it will be an honor to raise funds for the Grayken Center for Treatment that is focused on these services in our community.”

“I’m excited to have the support of friends, family and so many more as I fulfill a dream and at the same time honor my mother and my brother’s memory,” explained Sandifer, who is running  to raise funds for Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with South Shore  Hospital.

After several unprecedented years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boston Marathon will resume its tradition of taking place on Patriots Day, April 18, 2022. The 26.2 mile course will  consist of 30,000 fully vaccinated participants.

South Shore Health, the parent company of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass., is proud to be an official Partner of John Hancock in the Marathon Non-Profit Program.

Thanks to its  ongoing partnership with John Hancock, this is the eleventh year South Shore Health has been awarded a limited number of bibs to field a Boston Marathon team.

Team South Shore Health runners can choose to fundraise for behavioral health or cancer care services and programs. Runners earmark their fundraising in support of one of the following  programs/services:

  •  Supporting the implementation of behavioral health and substance use disorder  services and initiatives within the Grayken Center for Treatment at South Shore Health.
  • Cancer care at the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with  South Shore Hospital.

“Each donation that our team of runners receives will have a huge impact on our local  community,” said Jenn Croes, Executive Director of the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in  clinical affiliation with South Shore Hospital. “It allows us to participate in clinical trials for the patients and provides them with access to a level of cancer care that is unavailable elsewhere in  our region. And, it allows us to offer cancer education and support programs for patients and families.”

Not-for-profit, tax-exempt, charitable health system serving the people of Southeastern Massachusetts.

“We are extremely grateful to our team of runners who are making a tremendous impact in our community,” said Todd Kerensky, MD, Director of Addiction Medicine Services at South Shore Health. “The funds they raise allow us to provide patients with access to care, support programs,  and mental health and SUD resources.”
