The Unicorn Singers, a choral ensemble based in Hingham and serving the South Shore, presents Illuminations: A Journey from Darkness to Light through Sacred Song on April 12 and 13 at the UCC Church,460 Main Street, Norwell. Hingham residents performing in this concert include Betsy Clifford, Bill and Kathy Reardon, Sally Davenport, Tracy Allen, Lynn Anderson, Lizzie Inglis, Stewart Wood, Ed Bartholomew and Jeff Mailhot. Former Hingham residents performing include Jo-An Heileman, Caroline Chapin and Sally Cole Tucker. Gift Anyagwochu, a soloist for St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hingham, is the featured bass soloist in this concert.
The concerts explore the depth and beauty of French composer Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem (1893), followed by the ethereal Illuminare (2021) by American composer Elaine Hagenberg. Both works feature soloists and will be accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra. The music director is Kelley DePasqua and the accompanist is LenaeBadger of Scituate. The harpist is Hingham resident Tracy Allenwho is also a chorus member and president of the Unicorn Singers Board of Directors.
The Unicorn Singers was founded by Hingham resident Margo Euler in 1978 as a companion mixed chorus to the Broad Cove Chorale. Named for their inaugural performance musical work, Menotti’s The Unicorn, The Gorgon, and the Manticore, the ensemble has performed in the Hingham area for over 50 years.The group rehearses weekly at Hingham’s House of Prayer Lutheran Church.
The concerts will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the UCC Church, 460 Main Street, Norwell as the space can accommodate the small orchestra and the chorus.
