Hingham and HMLP customers sustained significant damage as a result of the bomb cyclone which struck Massachusetts this past Wednesday/Thursday.

Field and administrative resources were prepared and in place prior to the start of the storm. High winds hit the service territory starting at approximately 2:30 on 10/17.

The HMLP administrative staff fielded more than 300 calls from 2:45 to 7:00pm on Thursday for wires down, tree limbs on wires and assorted public safety issues.

Our line crews worked to restore power to 477 customers which included 20 single services. As of 7:00pm the single services were still out but were expected to be restored by midnight.

GM Paul Heanue reported, “Even though the wind and tree damage was significant, our aggressive tree trimming and maintenance program helped minimize the number and severity of the outages the system experienced. Our staff of dedicated personnel were ready at the outset of and worked hard throughout the event. The restoration was completed with a heightened level of safety and the work was completed accident free.”
