In the spirit of the holidays, community service and recycling, the Scouts of Troop 1 Hingham are running their annual “Christmas Tree Drive.” For Hingham Residents that sign up at www.hinghamtreedrive.com, local boy scouts -- spanning students from grades 6 to 12 -- will pick up your Christmas tree curbside and deliver it to the Hingham Transfer Station.
“Many local residents tell us that the scouts tree pickup makes their new year just a little bit easier and cleaner, while avoiding long lines at the Transfer Station,” said Marty Buckley, Troop 1 Scoutmaster. “But signing up also provides great experience and leadership opportunities for the scouts who perform all the tree removal themselves. We adults simply drive the trucks, while the boys do all the rest of the work themselves.”
Over its 110+ year history, Troop 1 Hingham has helped thousands of Hingham youth to experience new challenges and become leaders in the town, state and nation.
The Troop 1 Scouts still have Christmas tree curbside pickups available for Saturday January 9th and Sunday January 10th for Hingham residents. Anyone in Hingham can sign up for a curbside tree recycling pickup at www.hinghamtreedrive.com. A tax-deductible donation of $15 goes directly to support local Hingham Scouts programs and upkeep of the local Hingham Scout House.
“We're looking forward to continuing this annual Hingham tradition, as we have done for as many years as anyone can remember,” added Buckley. “To maximize everyone's safety, the Scouts will be following all COVID-19 safety protocols and we ask the same of our valued customers.”
