The spirit of giving was alive and well at the Hingham Women’s Club (HWC) as they recently concluded their annual signature event, the Festival of Trees, during Christmas in the Square at the Hingham Community Center. The event proved to be a resounding success, raising an impressive $18,500.

Of this total, $6,000 has been allocated to HWC’s scholarship program, an initiative aimed at supporting the educational aspirations of local high school seniors. The program annually awards three $2,000 college scholarships to deserving individuals who reside in Hingham, providing them with vital financial assistance as they pursue their academic endeavors.

In addition to investing in the future through education, the HWC is committed to supporting the present needs of the community. A generous donation of $12,500 has been extended to Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, resources, and support to individuals experiencing homelessness in the region.

Yet, the club’s impact extends beyond financial contributions. At a recent January meeting held at the Hingham Public Library, members took part in a hands-on activity with a heartfelt purpose. They collectively assembled and delivered 50 alphabet flash card packets for preschool-aged children who are receiving services from DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended) in Quincy. This initiative, inspired by the nonprofit organization Love Letters for Literacy, underscores the club’s commitment to supporting early childhood education and literacy in underserved communities.

The HWC remains steadfast in its dedication to serving others. At their February meeting, members came together to pack 100 bag lunches for Father Bill’s & MainSpring, an organization committed to ending homelessness in Southern Massachusetts. Additionally, plans are already underway for the March meeting, where members will assemble “period packets” for St. John’s Free Period Ministry, a local initiative providing essential hygiene products to those in need.

The HWC warmly welcomes all interested women to participate in their monthly meetings and contribute to their impactful endeavors. Whether through financial support, volunteer efforts, or collaborative initiatives, the club continues to demonstrate the power of collective action in creating positive change within the community.
