For an impressive 11th time in 12 years coach Paul Canniff’s wrestling squad captured the Patriot League title. The Harbormen faced archrival Marshfield for the title and handily defeated them 59-7. With motivation of unfinished business from last year, senior captains Aidan Chan, Jakub Wozny and Johnny Morris dominated their opponents. Mia Dineen got the match started with a victory that was followed by a pin from Hugh McGourty and decisive wins by Ian Prebble and JD Lucas that had the Harbormen rolling to a big lead. After a hard fought matches by Charlie Wilder and Tommy Riordan against two of Marshfield’s best, Hingham went on a run of pinning victories by Cole Riordan, Jakub Wozny, Tucker Burke, Eamon Murphy and Tyler Grady to win the title. Congratulations to the hard work and dedication each wrestler put in to be champions with an impressive 24-3 season record. All season long coaches Paul Canniff, Carl Pawlowski, Nick Rocco and Kevin Cyr did an outstanding job developing this championship team.
Big stages do not deter these varsity wrestlers as they advanced to the division 2 MIAA sectionals where the team placed 3rd with 6 wrestlers earning their way to the division 2 state tournament next week.
Captain Aidan Chan led all wrestlers by winning 4 hard fought matches to capture first place in his weight class. Mia Dineen pinned her opponent earning second place while captain Jakub Wozny, Tucker Burke and JD Lucas all pinned their foes to place 3rd in their weight classes. Ian Prebble, Tyler Grady and Hugh McGourty pressed onto victory placing 4th and Johnny Morris pinned his opponent to earn their spots at the “States” next Saturday. The dedication of this team this season – with 27 hard fought matches, 24 wins and a 3rd place finish at Sectionals – has certainly delivered in spades. Special congratulations to captain/senior Aidan Chan for his incredible accomplishments this season.
