HLCT Announces Guided Fall Walk on Saturday, October 19 at 10:00 AM

September 30, 2024 by The Hingham Land Conservation Trust

Join the Hingham Land Conservation Trust on our guided Fall Walk at the Hingham Cemetery on Saturday, October 19 at 10:00 AM. We will walk through more than 350 years of history and horticulture on a tour of Hingham Cemetery, established in 1672 as the town’s first burial ground. Larry Lindner, a former cemetery board president, will point out particular spots of interest spread across the sacred space’s 13 terraced acres, which contain both indigenous and exotic plantings along with significant sculptures. See the graves of two Massachusetts governors, Paul Revere’s daughter, and others who figure prominently in American history, and learn how gravestone carvings shift over time reflecting changes in culture and views about life and death. Park in the spots leading up the hill from the entrance at 12 South Street, Hingham, and meet in front of the Ames Chapel. The walk will take approximately 1.5 hours, and will cover hills and uneven terrain.

The Hingham Land Conservation Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to acquiring, preserving, and maintaining exceptional landscapes and natural areas in Hingham. More about the mission and activities of the HLCT is available at www.hinghamlandtrust.org.
