As we are all in the midst of the holiday shopping madness, fighting for a parking spots, perusing websites, looking for the best sales, and trying to find the perfect present for our loved ones, we invite you to consider the most special (and perhaps the most simple) gift of all...a local gift that is handmade by one Hingham's many talented artisans. In an effort to recognize some of Hingham's finest "makers," we wanted to share some fine gifts that are all handmade in Hingham (and, many of them are also available at our local shops!).

RE-STITCHED BY RINDY HESSELMAN
Re-Stitched" is a hobby that formed from an idea of Rindy Hesselman. Rindy has always had a creative side and enjoys making artistic things. She likes using natural materials and more recently, has become engaged in many recycling efforts. Four years ago, she was invited to a graduation party, and in trying to come up with a gift, she thought she would make a small pillow using the college logo of the graduate. She had some recycled sweaters leftover from another project and used them to create a red Miami M on a grey background. The pillow was well-received! Once she realized these were Hingham colors, she decided to create a Hingham H pillow in red and white on grey. Then the pillows blossomed! There were pillows with zip codes, names, town logos, and yacht club burgees. As students were graduating from high school and selecting their colleges and universities, the pillows were made using college logos as graduation gifts. The possibilities were endless!
All pillows are made using 100% recycled sweaters in cashmere or wool/cashmere blends and are hand-stitched with coordinating yarn colors. The sweaters are sourced from thrift stores and from friends. All the sweaters are washed before designing, cutting and stitching begins. They are filled with down filling and are available in square or rectangular sizes. Rindy accepts custom orders. Each pillow is truly unique and one-of-a-kind!
Rindy is happy to work with you to come up with your own unique design. You can reach her through facebook or by cell 781.690.6999 or email rindyhesselman@yahoo.com.

ARTWORK BY MAX
Hingham 6th grader, Max Bohane, was inspired to create a calendar and note cards by a dear family friend who passed away from brain cancer in 2016.
At 10 years old Max began drawing “landmark” images of Hingham that he turned into a calendar and note cards. This past year he began painting and has chosen to include these images in his 2020 calendar and note card set.
Still very much keeping true to his South Shore, seaside “roots”, his new paintings include images of still life, nautical/beach scenes and animals. He donates a portion of his proceeds to cancer research in memory of his inspiration and family friend who passed away.
It brings Max so much joy to know that people enjoy his artwork and that he is able to use his talent to “pay it forward” and help others. He has been told that in this world of electronics, people love how unexpected it is to receive a personal, hand written, note card….he likes to think that maybe he is helping to reconnect people in some small way.
Max’s cards can be purchased in Hingham at Acquire Good, The Cracker Barrel, The Paper Store, and Whole Foods.
If you would like to read more about Max or see some of his artwork please visit his website.
PERIWINKLE DESIGNS
Periwinkle Designs was started in the late 1980’s when Virginia Gray and Diane Partridge both relatives and members of the Hingham Garden Club showed Linda Wojtasinksi and her daughters Amy and Haley how to make a mussel shell wreath. The idea of a company blossomed from that and has gone thru many transitions as it was items we sold to friends then whole saleing to 50 stores then retailing them ourselves thru craft shows and pop up shops. Periwinkle Designs is now a family run business including products created by Linda, Amy and Haley with help from Amy’s children representing the 4th generation. They hand collect all the mussel shells off local beaches and create all our home decor by hand to help bring the seaside feel into your home.
You can purchase one of their products by visiting http://www.periwinkleshells.com/or you can find our upcoming events on the website. They will be at the SOWA holiday market in the south end on 12/6-12/8.
