Runners from Hingham and other communities are invited to kick off the long holiday weekend by joining the 25th annual Marathon Sports Hingham Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving Day, starting at 7:30 a.m. from Hingham High School.
For many, participating in this popular event — which is considered to be the biggest Thanksgiving Day race on the South Shore — has become a tradition and a great way to work up an appetite for turkey and all the fixings later in the day.
The event, which provides an opportunity to participate in a “fast, fun, and fulfilling road race,” benefits the Hingham High School Boys and Girls Cross-Country and Track and Field programs. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.
More than 1,700 runners registered for the race last year, and race organizers are expecting a large turnout this year, too.
Volunteers are welcome — to help out before, during, or after the race or by contributing sustenance for the runners.
