JUDITH ANN (RAMSDELL) HERSEY

Judith Ann (Ramsdell) Hersey of Hingham, passed away unexpectedly with her loving husband by her side, December 3, 2020 at the age of 72. She was the beloved daughter of the late Roy R. Ramsdell and Doris M. (Page) Ramsdell.

She is survived by her husband Peter W. Hersey of Hingham, her two daughters and son-in-laws Kristin A. Hersey and Keith M. Roche of Pelham, NH and Khara M. (Hersey) Houston and Joseph A. Houston of Duxbury, MA and her four cherished grandchildren Jacob, Anna and Jonah Houston and Evan Hersey Roche. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Paul E. Hersey, sister-in-law Elizabeth H. Priestly and her niece Heather L. (Priestly) Johnson. She also leaves behind an uncle, an aunt, several cousins and her West Highland White Terrier “Marsaili.”

Judith was born in Quincy, graduated from Woodward School for Girls, Regis College and received her master’s degree from Bridgewater State College. Judith lived in Hingham and Duxbury her entire life.

She was a special education teacher in Marshfield prior to the arrival of her first daughter.

An avid scrapbooker, she had a room specially designed to enhance her techniques and artistic talents. She created multiple years of bound scrapbooks chronicling her two daughters and grandchildren growing up. She also taught scrapbooking for the Duxbury continuing education program.

Judith was very creative and an accomplished seamstress. She made children’s’ outfits for ice skating and dancing. She also coordinated the interior design of her homes.

Judith loved to travel, explore new restaurants and spend time on their boat traveling the Florida Intracoastal waterway visiting friends. Her favorite pastime was walking the beach collecting seashells on Captiva and Sanibel Islands.

Judith and Peter were married at Saint Paul’s Church on October 18, 1975 and recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Due to COVID-19, they had take-out from the Alma Nova restaurant which made her favorite bolognese.

Her family was everything to her and the four grandchildren made her enormously proud. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, a private funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Paul’s Church (147 North Street, Hingham, MA 02043) followed by a private burial at The Hingham Cemetery.

In the future, a celebration of Judith’s life will be held at Hersey Farm.
