Kilby Street/3A work starts today, Sept. 14

Long-anticipated major safety improvements to the Kilby Street/Rte. 3A intersection -- long a hot spot for accidents -- began today,  Sept. 14, starting with catch basin work and eventually progressing to reconstruction of that portion of the roadway to allow for right-in, right-out turns only on both sides of Kilby Street.

The project, which will take up to two months to complete, will be funded by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The work,  which will include improvements that will benefit pedestrians and bicyclists, involves narrowing the intersection and installing traffic islands to restrict traffic to the right-turn only configuration in order to improve vehicular safety along Kilby Street and Rte. 3A.

The hours for the work will be, weather-permitting,  7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The project involves the closing of roadway shoulders to allow for excavation and curb installation. Check the town website for updates -- Hingham, MA | Official Website (hingham-ma.gov)
