Interim Plymouth River School Principal Gregory Lamothe has been named permanent principal, effective July 1.

This follows a number of administrative shifts at Plymouth River School at the end of the 2020-2021 school year resulting in Assistant Principal Charleen Fabrizio moving into the position of Elementary Administrator of Special Education and Principal Melissa Smith's appointment to the position of PRS Assistant Principal. Lamothe was then appointed to the role of interim PRS principal.

"Mr. Lamothe has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and done an outstanding job in his new role," Maestas stated in a Feb. 1 open letter to the Plymouth River School community. "It has also become clear that he is the right fit for the PRS faculty, staff, and community [in the role of principal]."

Maestas said that Lamothe and Smith, "coupled with the dedicated and talented faculty and staff, wonderful students, and supportive parents that already exist at PRS, make for an exciting combination in the years ahead."

Lamothe can be reached via email at glamothe@hinghamschools.org for any questions or concerns.

Maestas also shared in the letter to the school community details of Lamothe's career before joining PRS as interim principal.

Before the current academic year in that role, Lamothe served as the Coordinator of Special Education at the Paul A. Dever Elementary School in Boston Public Schools since 2018.
He began his career in 2006 as a history and mathematics teacher with the Boston Public Schools before accepting a 7th-grade mathematics position at the Brown Middle School in Newton, MA.

In 2015, Lamothe left Newton to assume the role of Assistant Principal of the Susan B. Anthony Middle School in Revere, serving in that capacity until his departure for the Dever Elementary School in 2018.

Lamothe is also an Adjunct Professor of Education at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he supervises students in the CAGS Leadership Program and teaches a graduate course on Behavior and Classroom Management.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Worcester State College, a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction from Northeastern University, a Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and a Certificate in Autism from Lesley University.

Lamothe also holds current certification from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Principal/Assistant Principal (PK-6; 5-8; 9-12), and Administrator of Special Education (All Levels) as well as teaching licenses in History (5-8; 8-12), Mathematics (5-8), and Moderate Disabilities (PK-8; 9-12).
