January 27, 2025 Submitted by Christina Godfrey

On January 9th the Savage Godfrey Gallery opened it’s second exhibition of art. Land+Sea combines four regional artist’s work; Susan Ahearn, Michael Coyne, Michele Lauriat, Aron Leaman. The exhibition runs through March 14th, 2025. A reception will be held on Friday, February 7th from 6-8 p.m.

Susan Ahearn’s abstract landscapes are inspired by her awe of natural beauty. On display in Land+Sea are five local scenes of Worlds End and Button Island. The oils are poetically painted reducing the vistas to color and shape. Susan paints at the Wright Building in Rockland, MA.

Michael Coyne’s newest series of paintings are on display at the Gallery. Inspired by the Budist wave philosophy, the five paintings depict sets of waves crashing and recessing. Originally inspired by a trip to Iceland, these beach scenes are a combination of memory and observation of walks along Nantasket and Minot beaches. Michael paints in Scituate, MA.

Michele Lauriat investigates natural patterns and asymmetry in her mixed media drawings. Informed by observation, she captures moments in nature with photography and onsite sketches. Back in the studio she paints, layering and abstracting these moments. On display are four Untitled Drawings from the Series Water Study. Michele paintings in Boston, MA,

Aron Leaman works Lowell, MA, where he founded Mill City Glass Works. His work is playful and colorful and inspired by the color and pattern found in nature. Birds are a common subject for Aron, they are a symbol of home. Through material, color, and form Aron invites viewers to ponder, with a smile on their face, how did he do that?
