December 19, 2023 Submitted by Committee to Elect Liz Klein
Liz Klein, Chair of the Hingham Select Board, announces that she will run for reelection in the AprilĀ 2024 Town election.
“Serving as a member of the Hingham Select Board has been an honor and privilege. With thisĀ privilege comes great responsibility and I have approached my obligations with the dedication andĀ seriousness they demand. I knew when I sought this position the first time, we would be faced withĀ some major challenges as a community. Coming out of a global pandemic, we needed to findĀ solutions to the exposed flaws and balance the level of services our citizens expect and deserve withĀ the available funding sources, while at the same time maintaining our AAA bond rating. I faced theseĀ issues head on with humility and transparency, always being guided by whatās in the best interest ofĀ our entire Town. I have continued the traditions of our well managed and governed Town whileĀ making the necessary adjustments to invest in our people, processes, technology, andĀ infrastructure.ā
āReflecting on my first term, there is much to be proud of as a community. We have celebrated threeĀ years of owning and operating an award-winning Water Company. We have broken ground on a newĀ public safety facility and elementary school. We have started implementing the Townās Master PlanĀ making great strides in the areas of affordable housing, climate resiliency, and inclusivity. We areĀ moving forward with the much needed new Center for Active Living. Ā We have made our downtownĀ and neighborhoods safer through a variety of strategies.ā
āLooking ahead, thereās still much to do and Iām seeking the opportunity to continue serving theĀ Town. We need to pursue economic development opportunities to keep tax rates low, while meetingĀ citizensā expectations for services. Continuing to build the optimal team and improving processes,Ā and using technology will make Town operations more efficient and effective.ā
Since moving to Hingham eighteen years ago, Liz has been an active participant and leader in theĀ community. Her Town experience includes service on the Hingham Master Plan Committee (Board ofĀ Selectmen Appointee), Hingham Downtown Association (Executive Director), Hinghamās 375thĀ Anniversary Committee, the Hingham Womenās Club (President, Treasurer), and the HinghamĀ Education Foundation (Communications Director).
āMy extensive experience and collaborative leadership style will continue to benefit both the SelectĀ Board and our Town. One of the goals of my first term was to improve relations between the SelectĀ Board and School Committee. The Hingham Public Schools are one of our greatest assets, and weĀ must sustain their excellence while also supporting our children academically, socially, andĀ emotionally. I commit to continuing to approach our Townās challenges with a focus on what is bestĀ for all of Hingham.ā
After graduating from the University of Richmond with a BSBA in Finance, Lizās career began as aĀ financial services consultant at Accenture working with Fortune 500 clients. Over the past 25 years,Ā she has worked on projects of all sizes in strategic planning, corporate education, marketing strategy,Ā and human resources. Throughout her volunteer and professional experience, Liz has a strong trackĀ record of working well with people who hold different perspectives to achieve common goals.
Liz and her husband Scott have two children, both students at Hingham High School.
