Liza O’Reilly has announced that she is running for re-election to the Hingham School Committee.
“I love doing this job and still feel energized to contribute. My focus is to ensure that the Hingham Public Schools grow in their educational excellence, deliver innovative programs, are both effectively managed and fiscally responsible. There is no bigger investment our Town makes than in our public schools. We deserve a big return.”
To deliver on that deserved return, Liza has three main priorities:
1. Focus on ensuring that the Hingham Public Schools provide positive outcomes for all students including elementary, middle school, high school, vocational, special education and out-of-district. To do that takes commitment, vision, homework and hard work which is her passion and skill.
2. Hingham welcomes Dr. Paul Austin as its new superintendent in July and she is focused on assisting the school district’s transition following Dr. Dorothy Galo's tenure. This will be a big adjustment for everyone. As an experienced and seasoned member of the School Committee -- including two terms as Chair, two terms as Vice Chair, and as Chair of the Superintendent Search Screening Committee and the search efforts – she is uniquely positioned to bring about a successful transition.
3. Champion the building of a new Foster School. This nearly 70-year-old school building is in need of replacement. Hingham must address this critical capital project that affects the entire community in addition to the Foster students, families and staff.
Liza is a long-serving community leader in Hingham. In addition to her officer positions, her School Committee subcommittee assignments include Special Education, Policy, Community Outreach, and Salary & Negotiations which included two union negotiations. She served as School Council Liaison for the High School, South School and Foster School, as well as on the search committees for the High School Principal and Student Services Director. Prior to 2013, she was appointed to the Middle School Master Plan Review Committee and was an officer of the Foster and East School PTOs. She remains active with the LWV of Hingham, the Friends of Sunset Point Camp in Hull, and as an overseer of the South Shore Conservatory.
Liza has lived in Hingham for 28 years with her husband and three children who are all students and graduates of the Hingham Public Schools. Liza works as a consultant to non-profit organizations for marketing and fundraising and worked as a sports marketing professional. She is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University.
“I have a deep understanding of how the School Committee, school district, local, state and federal funding and regulations operate. It takes all of us working passionately together to build a community. I hope to continue my efforts to collaborate at all levels to do what is best for Hingham and its students. I ask for your vote on April 27th.”
