Marilyn Brooks Wey of Hingham passed away peacefully on July 27th at the age of 89.
A longtime resident of Hingham, MA, Lyn is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth (Beth) Lyons and her husband Michael of Duxbury, MA, Margie Reis and her husband Rob of Larkspur, CA, and Alison Wright and her husband Michael of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. Lyn leaves behind seven grandchildren whom she adored. Corey and Christopher Lyons, Parker and Kevin Reis, Andrew, Maggie and Harry Wright and the latest addition her great granddaughter, Sofia Reis. Lyn is predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Harry Wey and her parents, Roy and Vineta Brooks.
Lyn was born in Brockton, MA and raised in Wollaston, MA. She was a graduate of Thayer Academy and Colby College.
Throughout her life she remained very close with her Thayer and Colby friends. After college she married and moved to several different states while her husband served in the United States Airforce. It was in Florida she gave birth to her first daughter, Beth.
She settled in Rye, New York where her second two daughters, Margie and Alison, were born. While busy raising her family in Rye she also got her real estate license. In 1972 the family moved to Hingham, MA where Lyn started her own interior design business and displayed her talents at several decorator showcase events. She was involved with the Hingham Garden Club, Hingham Historical Society, Hospice and served as a Trustee of Thayer Academy. Lyn enjoyed going to the Boston Symphony, Hingham Conservatory, playing bridge with her many friends and attending book club gatherings. She was never without a dog or two by her side.
Lyn and her husband spent their summers sailing through Cape Cod and Maine. They made countless memories cruising with dear friends and family. They loved the many summers spent in Boothbay Harbor, ME where they introduced their grandchildren to the beautiful Maine coastline.
Lyn was an active member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hingham as well as Hingham Yacht Club and Cohasset Golf Club. She will be remembered for her kindness and beautiful smile and will be missed dearly by all.
