Hingham Men Enjoy Volunteering Again!

A group of amazing gentlemen from Hingham that volunteered their time to help MFH prepare for this month’s sale.

The COVID Pandemic brought about may changes in our lives and one that was hurt was the opportunity for large groups to volunteer indoors.

For five years, 45 men from Hingham would join forces twice a year to sort over 16,000 pounds of donated food at the Greater Boston Food Bank.  The Pandemic changed all that and today groups are limited to 20 individuals during the work day.

A great new volunteer opportunity presented itself when some of the group members learned about the Boston based nonprofit Mass Fallen Heroes (MFH).  MFH was founded by a group of veterans  who want to help Gold Star families and veterans .  there are a number of resources available including education, employment training and opportunities and scholarships for children of fallen heroes.

MFH raises funds through an annual Gala as well as through a special warehouse program.

That’s where the Hingham men’s group comes in.

MFH operates a 10,000 square foot warehouse located at 100 Wearguard Drive in Hanover that receives constant shipments from top retailers . The shipments include brand name and signer clothes, jewelry, furniture , rugs, etc.  All those products need to be sorted and displayed for the monthly public sale.  The Hingham of 20 volunteers recently jumped in and spent two hours sorting several dozen pallet loads of goods to prepare for the next sale on Saturday, April 29th.  The doors are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and all of the proceeds go to fund the many MFH programs.

The Hingham men will return May10th for more volunteering to prepare for the May 13th sale.

Each member of the group said they had fun and knew they were helping a great cause.

  1. folks attending the sale should also use the address of 100 Wearguard Drive, Hanover. The warehouse is about 15 to 20 minutes from Queen Anne’s corner.
