November 15, 2023 Subitted by Downing Chapel Funeral Home
Michael Edward Ford passed away on November 15th after a long and brave battle against cancer. Born in 1947, Michael was the son of Francis and Suzanne Ford. Being a lifelong resident of Hingham, he dedicated his life to public service. He served in the United States Air Force, making the ranks of Sergeant from 1967-1973, and notably being stationed at Aviano Air Base in Italy. Upon returning home from service, he proudly served the Hingham Fire Department for 32 years, receiving a commendation for his heroic acts at the Hingham Square fire in 1988. He took tremendous pride in being an engine operator throughout most of his career, taking on the role of Acting Lieutenant at the end of his career.
Michael was committed to providing for his family, and he also began a second career as a Class A Licensed truck driver. He proudly worked for several companies including Paul Barry Waste Services, Iaria’s Construction, Spirito Construction, and Plymouth and Brockton Bus Services.
Some of his fondest memories were doing tree work with Ford Tree Services, a business proudly founded by his father. This was a family trade that he took part in starting at the age of twelve, and something that he was passionate about his entire life.
After many years of hard work, Michael was able to enjoy a full retirement. He loved walking and riding his bike all over town. He especially enjoyed his visits to Weir River Farm, where he volunteered a lot of his time. One of the most endearing things about Michael was his love for all animals, especially dogs.
Michael leaves behind his wife of 55 years Linda (Edvall) Ford, sister Jacqueline Timmons of North Waterboro, ME, daughters Suzanne Caparrotta of Weymouth, Sherry Messias of Carver, and son Thomas Ford and his wife Sarah of Hanover. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be reunited with his parents, his brother Peter Ford and his son Michael Ford.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 19th between the hours of 2pm-5pm at Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel 21 Pond Street, Hingham relatives and friends invited.
Funeral Service will be private and burial will be at High Street Cemetery.
