The first game of the season under Coach Tremante proved itself to be a tough loss. The Harborwomen fought hard, but barely fell to North Quincy with a final score of 2-1. The first half was a very good half for the Harborwomen. Great defense from senior goalie Abby Griffin along with great pressure from the Hingham kept the game at 0-0.
In the second half, however, the game soon picked up in scoring. About 15 minutes into the 2nd half, North Quincy was able to score off of an inbound pass. Very soon after, around 5 minutes, Hingham returns the favor with a goal from senior captain Grace Maroney off a great pass. With the game tied 1-1 now, the Harborwomen were looking to pull away.
With 15 minutes left to play, Griffin made a great save to keep the game tied. However, North Quincy was able to score a goal off a fastbreak with only 5:40 seconds left on the clock. This would be the game winning goal, as Hingham loses their season opener.
Though unfortunate, first year head coach April Tremante had some positive outlooks for this game and for the rest of the season. When asked about positive parts of the game, Coach Tremante expressed how, “We dominated the play. We possessed the ball the entire first half. They were watching us moving the ball and distributing the ball. We just didn’t finish the ball…overall, the girls look good.” Another positive outlook to this game is the young core of Hingham’s soccer team. With some of the girls having not played a single varsity game before, Tremante wants to make sure that the team keeps their morale up. Tremante explains how she wants them to say, “‘I can get on the field, I can play, I can compete at this level, if Im a freshmen or sophomore, I can compete against juniors and seniors.’”
Overall, a great game for the Harbowomen with great outlook for the rest of the season.
