On Monday, Bradley Rein, a 53-year-old man from Hingham, appeared in Plymouth County Superior Court in Brockton to face upgraded charges, which include second-degree murder, motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and 18 counts of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, for crashing his car into the Apple Store.

During the hearing, a prosecutor presented evidence from the electronic records of Rein’s Toyota 4Runner. The records showed that there was no sign of any brake application in the five seconds leading up to the crash. Instead, the SUV accelerated to 60 mph and veered off the road into the front of the store. According to prosecutors, Rein claimed that his foot got stuck on the SUV’s accelerator at the scene of the crash. However, there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs in his system.

Rein pleaded not guilty to these charges, and the judge ordered him to follow several conditions, including refraining from driving, staying in Massachusetts unless granted permission to leave, wearing a GPS device, surrendering his passport, and avoiding possessing weapons.

Rein had previously posted $100,000 bail and will remain free while wearing the GPS device.
