Hingham moms, Caroline Harb and Anya Reppucci, are thrilled to take the helm of the Hingham Education Foundation while so much is happening in our public school community. The co-presidents are a-buzz with excitement for HEF’s 11th annual Spelling Bee this weekend. Hundreds of kids are set to dazzle a cheering audience with their s-p-l-e-n-d-i-f-o-r-o-u-s spelling skills. “It’s such a fantastic day,” said Reppucci, who has a 6th grader at Hingham Middle School and a 4th grader at Plymouth River School. “The atmosphere is electric, and the kids have so much fun battling it out with the other hives.” Many thanks to all of our sponsors, especially our Champion Sponsors Falconeiri Construction and M.A Falvey Painting.

The Bee is just one thing on the local non-profit’s broad horizon. The coming months bring HEF’s Spring fundraiser at the South Shore Country Club, Teacher Appreciation week and the popular Hi-5 program, and the highlight of the year–the grant-giving season! HEF distributes grants to teachers and staff for projects that make a meaningful difference in the lives of Hingham students and families. “We’re able to impact all six of our public schools with the work that we do,” Said Harb, who has a 4th grader at South Elementary and a 6th grader at the Middle School. “It’s amazing to see our fundraising efforts go directly into the hands and classrooms of our teachers and school staff.

Because of the generosity of the Hingham community, HEF has been able to fund the Growing Kindness campaign at East Elementary, new sewing machines at Hingham High School and important professional development at the Middle School. “Whether it’s new books and materials, advanced technology or the ability to support new teaching strategies, our fundraising efforts go directly into the hands and classrooms of our teachers and school staff,” said Harb. “We were able to fund $100,000 in grants last May which allows us to fast track support directly into the classrooms of our students. Even coming off of the budget override last year, the schools still have needs and HEF helps to bridge that gap.”

We hope you’ll root for our kids this weekend at the Spelling Bee and consider supporting HEF. We need volunteers for events, board members and, of course, financial support.
