The Hingham Civic Association is a group of Hingham community organizations who just recently agreed to meet with the goals of information sharing and collective strength in the face of challenges posed by a post-pandemic world. Our initial meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 5, 2021. It is with a deep belief in community and our commitment to Hingham and the greater South Shore that we sign the following statement:
In light of the recent tragic violence in Atlanta and the use of anti-Semitic language locally, we wish to express our support for and solidarity with Hingham’s Asian American Pacific Islander and Jewish community members. It is a sad fact that bias and prejudice can exist anywhere and we feel compelled to publicly affirm that we will not tolerate acts of hate or bias in our own organizations or our community.
We are optimistic about the future of Hingham. It is a town steeped in rich history with much to be proud of. But we must accept the responsibility for making sure that it is a safe and supportive environment for all who live, learn and work here, and that includes a steadfast commitment to respecting the dignity and humanity of every community member and holding those who commit acts of discrimination accountable for their actions.
