Notre Dame Academy, Hingham is well known throughout the South Shore community as NDA. This independent, all-girls’ school, sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, recognizes each girl’s singular promise and offers an exceptional education that prepares girls for life.

In the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, NDA is extending its Cuvilly middle school division to include grade 6. NDA President Annemarie Lynch Kenneally, notes, “Middle school is a tremendous time of change in girls. Our Cuvilly program — named after the birthplace of NDA founder St. Julie Billiart — celebrates this important stage of life.” NDA’s program meets the need of families looking for an exceptional middle school that aligns with the traditional grade 6-8 model. President Kenneally continues, “We understand that families prefer to make one school transition after elementary school. Here, friendships and confidence flourishes.”

NDA Principal, Dr. Mary O’Brien Merrigan, notes the benefits of an all-girls’ learning community. She explains, “At NDA, girls lead in a variety of roles — in classrooms, teams, and clubs. Opportunities are endless and we are cheering them on each step of the way.

Cuvilly encourages courageous, critical thinkers who care for others and work to create positive change in the world. “We focus on growth mindset,” explains Vice Principal and Cuvilly Division Director, Romina Magner. “We believe abilities improve with effort, practice, and learning from mistakes. Here each girl grows in confidence, discovering her strengths and using her gifts to lift others.”

The Hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur shape the entire NDA community. Like their high school classmates, Cuvilly students in grades 6 through 8, explore new interests in the classroom and beyond. Girls participate to the fullest in classes, clubs, community service, and teams specifically developed for middle school students.

All-Girls’ Advantage
At NDA, the all-girls’ advantage is clear. Students flourish in a supportive environment with girls who are all excited to learn. NDA’s middle and high school is dedicated to developing the whole girl — her intellect, her social and emotional skills, and her
spiritual formation. Students learn to think independently, explore connections, and understand different perspectives, allowing them to apply their knowledge to solve real world challenges.

Academics
Cuvilly faculty are middle school specialists. Teachers encourage girls to be inquisitive, and take students on a deep dive into learning, thinking, and doing. Girls eagerly engage with time-honored teaching which builds core knowledge. And they participate in interdisciplinary learning projects that study issues through the lens of multiple subjects.

Beyond the Classroom
Middle school clubs and activities let students explore diverse interests in a supportive, structured environment. Clubs take place during the school day to ensure every student can participate. NDA’s award-winning athletic program offers competitive middle school sports.
