Florence E. (Cotter) Beneduci, of Hingham, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, age 97. Florence was born in Somerville on April 6, 1927, and was the daughter of the late James J. and Hazel M. (Oxley) Cotter.
Having grown up in the depression era she was a woman of service and consummate caregiver starting with the Cadet Nurse Corp during the 2nd World War where she attended the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse specializing in pediatrics.
Florence was a woman of faith and lived her life in accordance with the Christian Virtues of faith, hope and love. She was a devout member of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church of Hingham where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and in other church duties. She enjoyed volunteer work such as Meals on Wheels where she was awarded a 20-year service pin, she regularly transported fellow church and community members from their homes to church, appointments and other activities into her 90s.
She was an accomplished seamstress who made common clothing items as well as highly detailed and fashionable formal wear including wedding and attendant dresses for herself and her family.
Florence, while raising a family of 8, continued work in the nursing profession as a Charge Nurse at Colonial Nursing Home in Weymouth Mass where she worked until retirement. She was a devoted wife and mother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Beloved wife of the late Tullio Beneduci, who died in 2009, loving mother of James F and his wife Tracey of NY, Jean of Pembroke, Thomas and his wife Brenda of FL, Gary T. and his wife Soo Hoon of CA, Ellen Douglass of Hingham, David J. and his Fiancé Cristine Floyd of NJ, Stephen and his wife Deborah of North Carolina, and Francis G. and his wife Nancy of CA. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 4 Great Grand Children and several nieces and nephews.
Raised in Randolph, she was the oldest of a family of 7 and is survived by her sister Loreto DaSilva of FL and MA and brother Gregory Cotter and his wife Sharon of FL and MA. She was predeceased by siblings Mary Green of MA, James Cotter of CT, Anne Meissner of FL, and Tom Cotter of MA.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church, 147 North St., Hingham at 10 AM on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The interment will be private.
