First Parish/Old Ship Church has entered into a purchase and sale agreement for the 1867 Parish House with Matthew Smith of Medfield.
"Mr. Smith intends to renovate the property for single residence use," Board of Trustees President Janet Asnes told the Hingham Anchor. "Our congregation is excited to begin plans for the construction of a new energy-efficient Parish House adjacent to our Meeting House at 90 Main St."
Following a Hingham developer's withdrawal from a purchase and sale agreement with Old Ship Church for the historic Parish House -- located at 107 Main St. -- last fall, the decision was made last February after consulting with local realtors that the most promising use of the building at that time would be as a single-family residence due to the current market.
The 10,824-square-foot Parish House is situated on 2.75 acres located in a Residence A zoning district in the heart of Downtown Hingham.
The original price when the property was first put on the market was $4.75 million. The http://107mainst.com/ website lists the property as being offered for $2.6 million.
Because the building is located in the Downtown Hingham Historic District, any proposed changes will be required to conform to Historic Districts Commission regulations, "but there's plenty of leeway," Parish House Management Team Co-Chair Nina Wellford said earlier.
