November 4, 2022 Provided by the Old Ship Coffeehouse off the Square
The popular Old Ship Coffeehouse off the Square is returning Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. to host a special concert as a memorial tribute to longtime coffeehouse volunteers Jim Watson, Sherman Whipple, Joan Cellini, Carol Shuler, and Jim Richmond. The event will be held in the Parish Hall at 107 Main St. in downtown Hingham.
Coffeehouse favorite Southern Rail will be among the performers. Their bluegrass is high octane, exuberant fun, with lush harmonies, irrepressible good humor and sparkling instrumental work. Two of the band members, guitarist Jim Muller and bassist Sharon Horovitch, were recently inducted into the Rhode Island Bluegrass Hall of Fame. Southern Rail has been a mainstay at the Off The Square Coffeehouse for almost 15 years.
Also playing will be talented Hingham musicians Bob Hawes & Jeff O'Neil, Marc Meyer, Duncan McLore, and Eric Cornetta, as well as Marty Blumberg, Bob Uvello, and Dave Jackson.
Jim Watson coordinated the coffeehouse with enthusiasm for many years, Sherman designed posters and helped get the word out to the community, Carol baked and then served refreshments during intermission, Joan greeted coffeehouse fans at the door and handled ticket sales, and Jim Richmond helped out with the coffeehouse set-up. Sherman also was a musician who performed at many local venues.
This will be the 39th year of the Coffeehouse since it first began in 1983.
The Coffeehouse provides a welcoming atmosphere to just relax, listen to good music, and enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert. Everyone is welcome!
Instead of a formal admission charge, there will be a free-will donation box to benefit the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
