The Bogmen — a well-known New York City band with a huge following in the ’90s — will perform at the Paragon Boardwalk in Hull Aug. 24, coinciding with the planned release in 2023 of their first full-length album, “In My Kingdom,” in more than 20 years.
Hingham High School lacrosse coach Pat McCavanagh arranged this special event in memory of Greg Kline, who passed on in 2020. McCavanagh’s brother went to college with a couple of the band members and is a big fan. Kline was a close childhood friend and major supporter of The Bogmen and other good causes.
Fellow Hingham resident Mike Brazis — who still maintains close connections with the band members from Huntington, Long Island from their days of playing lacrosse together at Ohio State — is also involved with planning the event.
“Greg was very much a patron of the band over the years, helping to set up fundraising shows in and around New York City,” Brazis told the Hingham Anchor. “After Greg’s death, the band and our close group of friends adopted Greg’s motto, ‘Get busy living!'”
Founding Bogmen members Bill and Brendan Ryan and Billy Campion were lifelong friends with Kline — who all grew up in Huntington.
“The Bogmen have used Greg’s ‘Get busy living!’ motto as motivation and inspiration for new music and to play live more,” Brazis explained. “The upcoming concert is really a celebration of that.”
The Aug. 24 concert starts at 7 p.m. The doors open at 5 p.m. The band also plans to play a song in memory of former Hingham resident Dave “DJ” Johnson, who passed away recently on Cape Cod. The Bogmen was his favorite band.
Paragon Boardwalk is the perfect setting for the concert. “Huntington — like Hingham and Hull –is a coastal community, and we thought this outdoor venue by the beach with its low-key atmosphere and good vibe would be a great place to host the show,” Brazis said. “Greg would have loved it.”
