Police are investigating a single car fatal crash that occurred on Lincoln Street (Route 3A) at the intersection of Shipyard Drive Sunday.

On February 5, 2023 at 4:43pm a cell phone caller reported a car was driving westbound on Lincoln St. (Rte. 3A) and was “all over the road”. While Officers were heading toward the area, the car crashed at the intersection of Shipyard Drive. Officers found the driver of the car trapped inside. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no passengers in the car.

A preliminary investigation indicates the car, a 2014 BMW, had been driving west on Lincoln St., drove across Shipyard Drive, onto the sidewalk and struck the base of a large traffic signal post on Shipyard Drive. The impact sent pieces of the car across Lincoln St. as well onto a grassy area along Lincoln St. which then caught fire. The grass fire was extinguished by Hingham Fire Department. No other cars were damaged.

This portion of Lincoln St. remained closed until 9:15pm while on the Massachusetts State Police Collision and Reconstruction Section (CARS), Crime Scene Services and Hingham Police investigated the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hingham Police and the State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. The name of the driver is not being released at this time pending family notification. ### Contact P.I.O. Lt. Steven Dearth
