Interim Police Chief David Jones and Fire Chief Steve Murphy were the first public safety personnel to be administered the COVID-19 vaccine today in Hingham.
The Hingham Police and Fire Departments, in partnership with local boards of health, joined with their regional public safety partners from Cohasset, Hull, Norwell, and Scituate and the Regional Emergency Communications Center located at town hall -- "to offer vaccinations to all of our combined public safety personnel," according to Hingham Interim Police Chief David Jones.
Jones said that he and all those involved "are incredibly grateful for this opportunity to get our frontline personnel vaccinated against COVID-19. Our [public safety] officers have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to maintain the same high level of service that our community has enjoyed without interruption, and having access to the vaccine will allow us to safely continue to provide these services and more as we help to see our community through this crisis."
About 90 percent of HPD personnel are onboard to be vaccinated this week, while some others are in quarantine. "I invited our administrative lieutenant and the heads of both unions to get vaccinated along with the fire chief and myself to lead the effort for as many [of our personnel] as possible to be vaccinated."
Additional HFD personnel are also in line to be vaccinated this week.
