Ralph Clinton Morrison, Jr., a longtime resident of Hingham, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, July 25, 2024. He was 88 years old.
Ralph was born in Quincy, Massachusetts to Yvonne A (Gosselin) and Ralph Clinton Morrison, Sr. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1954 were he excelled in the sport of baseball. After graduation, Ralph was signed as a pitcher by the St. Louis Cardinals. He was then drafted into the United States Army where he served both actively and with the Massachusetts Army National Guard. While serving in the National Guard, Ralph continued to play baseball where he caught the eye of scouts and was subsequently signed by the Milwaukee Braves. He was later elected to the Quincy High School Hall of Fame.
In 1957, shortly after signing with the Braves, Ralph met the love of his life, Sharon Taylor of Hingham. In 1959 Sharon and Ralph married. In 1960 they moved into their home in Hingham where they raised three boys and have lived there ever since. Ralph dedicated his life to his family, working as many as three jobs a day. He worked for the United States Post Office for over 40 years, and could often be seen taking care of the athletic fields where his sons played. He loved coaching baseball for his sons and many others throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. To his kids, Ralph was their number one fan. He never missed a baseball or football game that his sons played in and could always be seen at the field with his camcorder in hand.
Ralph’s patience, diligence and quiet strength played a large part in shaping the lives of many people. He was a mentor to many and a friend to all.
