HINGHAM TOWN HALL
16:00 hrs. / 4:00 pm
The Town of Hingham Department of Veterans’ Services in conjunction with the Hingham Historical Commission and the Hingham Planning Board, is proud to unveil priceless World War II memorabilia directly related to the Hingham Shipyard and its support of the war effort.
We will begin our dedication in Sanborn Auditorium with a showing of “Remembering the Hingham Shipyard”. This brief 30 minute video chronicles the participation of many Hingham residents in the ship building process here in our historic shipyard.
Our event will be moderated by Veteran’s Services Officer, Keith Jermyn, along with comments from former Selectman Paul Healey.
At the conclusion of the film, all attendees are invited to view the unveiling of the memorabilia in its new location on the second floor of Hingham Town Hall. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has generously donated these artifacts to the Town of Hingham for their preservation and public display.
This historic display includes models of each of the five vessels which were constructed in the yard. These models were meticulously assembled by Al Houghton, a former employee of DCR, history enthusiast and veteran himself.
Light refreshments will follow.
In the event you are unable to join us, the Hingham Public Library will be offering showings of the film “Remembering the Hingham Shipyard” and a bonus feature “Shipways”. These films feature both the Fore River and the Hingham Shipyards. Showings will be held on Sunday, June 2, from 3 – 5 pm and Thursday, June 6, from 6 – 8 pm, in honor of the 75thanniversary of D-Day.
