Robert Francis Browne, of Norwell, 87, formerly a longtime Hingham resident, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving children. Robert was born on April 29, 1934 in Somerville, MA to John and Alice (Doyle) Browne. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Marilyn Browne, who passed away in August 2018. He was the cherished father of Robert F. Browne, Jr. and his wife Jackie of Sandwich, Kathleen B. Gilson, MD and her husband Geoffrey Gilson, MD of North Easton, David Browne and his wife Lisa of Hanover, and Michael Browne and his wife Leslie of Walpole. He was the brother of Richard (and Betty) Browne, John (and Robin) Browne and Patricia Weiler who predeceased him. Bob, who loved spending time with family and enjoying his beloved wife’s cooking, was the ultimate Boston College football fan. He also never missed a Patriots or a Red Sox game, and he was known by many for making the best Bloody Marys. Bob was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play sports and perform on stage. He often bragged about them to friends and fellow churchgoers. He was an active youth basketball and baseball coach when his children were young. Bob worked for the New England Telephone Company/AT&T for 37 years. He was a hard worker who everyone loved to be around and he had a knack for remembering people’s names. Upon retiring, Bob was a starter at Black Rock Country Club, where he was known for his charisma and witty jokes. He also spent many years as a financial services representative in his retirement. Bob’s family was the foundation of all that was truly important to him. He and his wife, Marilyn were devoted members of The Church of the Resurrection for many years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a cherished father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a faithful friend and someone you could always count on for a laugh and a good story. He will be dearly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him.
