Robert “Rollo” B. Smith Sr passed away on Tuesday February 11th, 2025, at the age of 91. Husband of the late Barbara Smith. Son of the late Norman and Mildred (Wagner) Smith. Father of Stacey and Steven Sellman of Plymouth, predeceased Robert B Smith Jr of Hull, Susan J and Daniel Valley of Antrim NH, Nancy and Steven Parker of Pembroke, Amy Smith of Milton, Beth Peterson of Plymouth. Brother of the late Jean Hunt of Bridgetown ME, and the late Ronald Smith of Hingham. Survived by his sister Bonnie Smith of Norwell. Survived by 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Raised in Newton and moved to Hingham in his younger years. Robert moved to Hull several years ago. He worked many years as a foreman at Hingham Municipal Light Plant and then went to work at Hull Light prior to retirement. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy. Robert coached Hingham softball, basketball, and coached hockey for the Hobomock Chiefs in Kingston in his early years. He was an avid runner in his younger days he ran the Boston Marathon and several Falmouth road races. He was an avid sports fan especially his Patriots and Red Sox. He loved traveling across the United States. (Bobo as his grandchildren called him) loved spending time with his family (especially with his grandchildren). He will be sorely missed.
Visiting hours will be held Monday February 17th, 2025, from 4-7pm at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel 21 Pond Street Hingham MA. A funeral service will be held Tuesday February 18th, 2025, at 10:30 at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at High Street Cemetery Hingham MA.
