July 27, 2022 Submitted by the Town of Hingham
The Town of Hingham would like to ask all residents to save the date for a Special Town Meeting that will be held this fall.
At its meeting on Tuesday, July 12, the Hingham Select Board voted to schedule a Special Town Meeting to be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022 at Hingham High School.
The Select Board voted to place three warrant articles on the Special Town Meeting Warrant relating to funding the construction of a new Foster Elementary School and a new proposed Public Safety Facility.
“The Select Board is pleased to advance these articles to Special Town Meeting for discussion and decision,” said Select Board Chair Bill Ramsey. “These articles reflect much community volunteer effort, over several years, to define these projects. Between now and November, we hope residents will avail themselves of information and resources to inform their decision-making.”
The warrant articles have been posted on the Town of Hingham website.
The Select Board also voted to place local debt exclusion questions regarding Foster Elementary School and the Public Safety Facility on the November 8, 2022 State election ballot.
Securing the necessary funding for the two projects through a debt exclusion is a two-step process that requires both a two-thirds vote at Town Meeting and a majority vote on the state election ballot the following week.
The Select Board and Advisory Committee will hold a series of public meetings to discuss the projects ahead of the November 1, 2022 Special Town Meeting and November 8, 2022 ballot vote. The Town will also be implementing a coordinated public outreach plan, including:
- Public information sessions and site tours with daytime, evening, and weekend options.
- Documents, videos, site plans, and other resources explaining each project; all available online.
