SELA: The International Private School, recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and fostering global citizenship, served as a beacon of education and celebration during its recent JuniorK and Kindergarten program graduation ceremonies. In all, 61 students – 51 from six JuniorK classes, and 10 Kindergarten students – marked this transition in their educational adventure, as they embark on future kindergarten and elementary school programs within SELA and beyond. SELA is the first and only full Spanish immersion school in Southeastern Massachusetts.
Director of Early Global Education Rachael Mayer opened SELA’s JuniorK graduation ceremony with a warm welcome alongside teachers and students. Teachers recited heartfelt poems or offered words of wisdom, encapsulating the essence of their time together, painting vivid pictures of curiosity, imagination, and endless possibility that await the young learners.
“As I called their names, each student stepped forward, filled with a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation,” Mayer shared. “It is a joy to share this moment of connection and recognition between teachers, families, and students as they culminate their education journey and mark the beginning of a new adventure.”
Kindergarten students receive diplomas at a ceremony shortly after. A heartwarming welcome was delivered by SELA Elementary Director Eric Simon, highlighting the growth and achievements of the remarkable young learners. Taking center stage and beaming with anticipation, the graduates performed a rendition of “Let It Grow” from The Lorax, a testament to their creativity and instilled values. As each student received their diploma, applause resonated from families and teachers with pride and admiration for their achievements, as they anticipate the first grade challenges that lie ahead.
Founded in 2004 in Cohasset as Su Escuela Language Center, the school launched with the goal of preparing English-speaking children to excel linguistically, academically, and socially in global society through instruction in a second and third language. In July of 2011, the academy expanded and opened the doors at its flagship campus in Hingham. Now established as SELA: The International Private School, its educational model has continued to expand, most recently establishing its newest campus in Norwell.
