December 3, 2020, Submitted by the Office of State Senator Patrick O'Connor
BOSTON – State Senator Patrick O’Connor (R-Weymouth) and his office are now accepting intern applications for the upcoming winter and spring. The intern program provides students with a better understanding of public service and the legislative process in Massachusetts.
“Internships are a great way for students to build their skills, learn about state government, and become involved in the community,” said Senator O’Connor. “It’s important to me that when students complete their internship that they walk away feeling they improved their professional skillset and made a meaningful contribution to our office.”
Although the internship program is temporarily remote, the responsibilities of an intern have remained the same. Interns support the office by researching bills and issues, attending hearings, observing formal session debate, assisting with constituent services, and providing administrative support.
Interns come from a varied spectrum of academic backgrounds, but internships are typically only available for students pursuing an undergraduate degree or higher. Interns are unpaid volunteers; however, students may be eligible to earn academic credit for their participation by making arrangements through their advisors and professors. Students looking to apply for the role should send a resume and cover letter to Patrick.OConnor@MASenate.gov.
Senator Patrick O’Connor represents the Plymouth and Norfolk district, which includes the towns of Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell, Scituate, and Weymouth. Sen. O’Connor and his staff may be reached at the State House at 617-722-1646 or by email at Patrick.O’Connor@MASenate.gov. Visit www.SenatorOConnor.com to learn more about the office.
