Hingham Sports Partnership (HSP) has kicked construction into high gear for The DOCK, a new fitness and wellness center at Hingham High School (HHS). Crews began demolition today of the old structure to prepare for the new building.

This exciting news arrived on the heels of a new $100,000 grant from the State of Massachusetts secured by Senator Patrick O’Connor.

“I am very excited to have been able to secure $100,000 in funding in the State Budget to support the Hingham Sports Partnership’s DOCK project. This community investment will be a significant step toward developing an updated fitness and wellness facility at Hingham High School, which will better the lives and physical health of all those that use it,” said Senator O’Connor. “This inclusive space will foster a supportive environment where every student will feel welcomed and valued. The funding and The DOCK project showcase our collective commitment to investing in the future of our youth and our communities. I am glad my office and the state could play a role in bringing to life a facility that aligns with the obligation we all share to improve community engagement and the wellness of our students.”

The DOCK

“The DOCK is being completely funded by philanthropy,” commented HSP Board President Deb McCarthy. “This project would not be possible without the support of committed advocates like Senator O’Connor.”

The DOCK will be a 2,500 square foot modern facility located at the HHS Athletic Complex. It is slated to replace the existing storage and maintenance facility adjacent to the track, in the rear parking lot. The new center will help HHS expand electives, such as yoga and more, offering a better space to host these electives and help improve students’ wellness.

“Many Hingham families, individuals and groups have already generously donated to help to make The DOCK a reality,” said Campaign Co-Chair Kevin Quilty. “Our goal is to raise an additional $150,000 as we continue construction. We hope that those who have not yet contributed will consider making a gift at any level.”

In working with the Town, School Committee, and High School leadership, HSP hopes to have The DOCK project completed and ready for student use in 2025. To learn more about HSP and how you can support fundraising efforts for The DOCK, visit https://www.hinghamsports.com/node/12.
