The arrival of a global pandemic meant that Hingham and the rest of the world were suddenly faced with many new challenges and changes. School, church, and gatherings small and large were cancelled or postponed. Playgroups were called off and offices were closed. What didn't change, however, was that the occasions worthy of celebration still arrived as they always do. Birthdays, anniversaries, new babies and many other wonderful events have happened in our small town in spite of the virus and where there is a will, there is a way. Hingham has proudly decided; celebrate, we will (responsibly, of course).
Twelve year-old Brennan Burnett has always loved his birthday. "He had been talking about it every day for months," his mom, Sharon told the Anchor. "He had planned out his day with his cousins coming over, going to dinner at his favorite restaurant and going to the arcade," she continued.
Once it became clear that his birthday plans would not come to fruition, Brennan's aunt, Shauna Brasseur came to the rescue and organized the "new normal" birthday celebration, a parade of cars where all of Brennan's loved ones could wish him a happy birthday from the safety of their vehicle.
When Brennan's mom drove him past a fleet of Hingham Police Officers and dozens of cars filled with friends and family, many holding signs and balloons, his smile was contagious as he waved at his crowd.
Before he went to bed that evening, Brennan proclaimed that the day was the ”the best day ever."
